Fireflies.ai is an AI meeting assistant. It joins your video calls, records what everyone says, turns it into a written transcript, and then pulls out a summary, action items, and key moments automatically. If you have ever left a meeting thinking "wait, what did we actually agree on?" — that is the problem it tries to solve.

A quick clarification first, because the name confuses people: Fireflies.ai is not an AI video generator. It does not create videos from text or scripts. It listens to your meetings and takes notes for you. Some similarly named tools do video creation, but this one is all about meetings.

How does Fireflies.ai work?

The idea is simple. You connect Fireflies to your calendar or your meeting apps. When a meeting starts, a participant called "Fireflies Notetaker" joins the call — on Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, and a few other platforms. It records the audio, and a few minutes after the call ends you get an email with the transcript and a summary waiting in your Fireflies dashboard.

You do not have to remember to press record. You can set it to join every meeting automatically, or only the ones you pick. If you would rather not have a bot in the call, there is also a Chrome extension and mobile apps that can capture audio without the notetaker bot joining. Our guide to how Fireflies.ai works walks through the whole setup, step by step.

What do you actually get after a meeting?

Every recorded meeting turns into a page in your dashboard with a few useful pieces:

  • A full transcript — every word, with speaker labels, in more than 100 languages. The company says accuracy is around 99% for English and 95% for other languages. In practice, like every transcription tool, it does better with clear audio and worse with crosstalk and heavy accents.
  • An AI summary — a short overview of what was discussed, so you can skim a one-hour call in a minute.
  • Action items — things people said they would do, pulled out into a list.
  • Searchable moments — you can search across all your meetings for a word or topic, like "pricing" or "deadline", and jump straight to that part of the recording.

AskFred: the part people talk about most

AskFred is Fireflies' built-in AI chat assistant. Instead of re-reading a transcript, you ask it questions in plain language — "What did Sarah promise to send by Friday?" or "Summarise the objections the client raised" — and it answers from your meeting history. It can look across many meetings, not just one, which is handy when you are trying to remember what was said three calls ago.

Integrations: where your notes go

Notes that stay locked in one app are not very useful, so Fireflies pushes meeting data into the tools teams already use. It connects with CRMs like Salesforce and HubSpot (handy for logging sales calls automatically), Slack (meeting recaps posted to a channel), and project tools. There are more than 100 integrations listed on their site, plus an API if you want to build your own workflow.

Which apps and devices does it run on?

Fireflies is mainly a web app — you manage everything from your browser at fireflies.ai. There are also apps for iPhone and Android, a desktop app, and a Chrome extension for capturing meetings without the notetaker bot. So whether your calls happen on a laptop, a phone, or in a browser tab, there is a way to record them. The download page has the official links to grab the apps and sign up.

How much does Fireflies.ai cost?

There are four plans, and the company publishes the prices openly. All prices below are per seat, from their pricing page:

  • Free — $0. Unlimited transcription and unlimited AI summaries, 400 minutes of storage per team, and a small allowance of AI credits. Genuinely usable if you only need a few meetings a week recorded.
  • Pro — $10 a month billed annually ($18 month-to-month). Everything in Free, plus 8,000 minutes of storage per seat, video recording, downloadable transcripts, AI Skills, and voice agents.
  • Business — $19 a month billed annually ($29 month-to-month). Unlimited storage, conversation intelligence for sales teams, team analytics, and multi-language mode. This is the tier most companies land on.
  • Enterprise — $39 a month, annual only. Adds single sign-on, audit logs, HIPAA compliance, private storage, and custom data retention for regulated industries.

Prices change from time to time. Our plain-English breakdown of the pricing plans walks through which tier fits which team — but always check the official pricing page before you decide. The free plan is a sensible way to test it on your own calls first.

Who is Fireflies.ai actually good for?

It fits best if you spend a lot of your week in meetings and hate writing notes. Sales teams use it to log calls to the CRM without manual data entry. Recruiters use it to revisit candidate interviews. Managers use it to keep track of who agreed to what. Basically, anyone whose job produces a trail of "we talked about it but nobody wrote it down".

It is less useful if your meetings are mostly quick standups with no decisions, or if your team is uncomfortable with a bot joining calls — some people find the notetaker participant a bit odd at first, and in some places you need everyone's consent to record.

Things to know before you start

A few honest limitations worth knowing:

  • Recording consent matters. Laws about recording conversations differ by place. Tell people the notetaker is joining, and check the rules where you and your participants are.
  • Transcripts are not perfect. No AI transcription is. Skim the summary, but double-check anything critical against the recording.
  • Your data. The company says it does not use customer meeting data to train AI models, and it lists SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance on all plans, with HIPAA available on Enterprise. If you handle sensitive calls, read their security docs yourself before trusting any summary here.

The company behind it

Fireflies.ai started in 2016, founded by Krish Ramineni and Sam Udotong. It began as a voice-productivity experiment and pivoted into meeting intelligence, which is now its whole business. The company says more than 20 million people across over a million organisations use it — those are the company's own numbers, but it is fair to say it is one of the best-known names in AI notetakers, alongside Otter.ai and Fathom. We put the two biggest names head to head in Fireflies.ai vs Otter.ai.

This site is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with Fireflies.ai — for the product itself, the official site at fireflies.ai is the source of truth.

I came here thinking this was one of those text-to-video tools, so I'm glad the first paragraph cleared that up right away. Does the notetaker join meetings automatically, or do you have to invite it every single time?

My company blocks third-party bots from joining calls for privacy reasons. Is there any way to use this without the bot actually joining the meeting?
